Most shojo readers are familiar with one of the most common plots in the genre: awkward girl meets suave guy and falls in love. My Love Story, a new manga series from Shojo Beat, will flip that relationship on its head. Takeo Goda is just a regular Joe – nice guy, but doesn’t get the girl. His buddy Sunakawa is the school’s heartthrob, which leaves Takeo in the shadows. Takeo doesn’t let it get under his skin; he’s accepted this role for the most part. Everything changes when Takeo saves a young woman, Yamato, from a subway harasser. He ends up falling in love with her, but he’s afraid the good-looking Sunakawa will sweep her off her feet!

From VIZ:

“MY LOVE STORY!! is a wonderful laugh-out-loud comedy sure to delight any reader that has ever rooted for, or been, the underdog in a relationship,” says Amy Yu, Editor. “This is a different type of shojo story, told from the standpoint of the sweet but blundering main male character, Takeo. We invite fans to complement their summer manga reading with this fun, new romantic comedy from Shojo Beat!”
