Red, the first of a series of color-inspired crates from Marvel Gear + Goods, featured many iconic Marvel heroes whose motif is a shade of red, including not only the Scarlet Witch and the Red Guardian, as you’d expect, but Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Iron Man.

My favorite item in Red was the fantastic tee-shirt, which sported not only Daredevil, but Daredevil as drawn by fan-favorite artist Gene Colan, whose tenure drawing the iconic crimefighter was among the longest of those artists associated with the character. The only reason I won’t be wearing this beauty is my wife is a much bigger fan of Daredevil than I am! She gets all the cool Daredevil items we receive from Marvel Gear + Goods.

My second favorite item in Red was the tiny pillow depicting the Scarlet Witch. Making humorous use out of Wanda’s bizarre helmet to frame the pillow area, the pillow is a great visual to accent a living space, and even if much too slight to be a decent arm or headrest for me, it could cushion an omnibus edition on my lap. My kids may get more naptime and bedtime use out of this than me.

The Red Guardian tin sign has nice production values, being done with a slightly distressed look, perhaps to resemble a piece of cold war propaganda. Diehard Marvel enthusiasts will be happy to get this in-universe artwork for their walls.

With not only two embroidered patches, front and back, but some web art under the bill, the Spider-Man ball cap is pretty sweet headgear. If you’ve read more than a handful of my Loot Crate reviews here, you know that I am usually more envious than excited about great ballcaps, due to having a head larger than Fin Fang Foom’s knuckle, and rarely being able to wear any of these great caps. Actually, Fin Fang Foom’s knuckles are no doubt a little slenderer than my head, so that he could wear a bevy of Loot Crate caps on his knuckles if he wanted to. Those of you with normal expectations for hats will no doubt love this Spider-Man hat. It’s pretty awesome.

While they may not brighten up your room behind your television set, the Iron Man cable ties are no doubt one of the most functional items sent in a Loot Crate subscription, and perhaps it will tickle you to know that Iron Man is holding things together back there.

With not only a fantastic tee featuring a vintage rendition of Daredevil, but a cool throw pillow and a sweet hat, Red was an excellent crate that was not only exciting to open, but had high quality items that sustained my interest. It makes me very excited for Blue (no doubt the Beast!!!, and hopefully the Fantastic Four???) and the rest of the crates in the color series.
