While Oblivion is pleasant enough to watch, it is impressively disappointing. The plot elements promise a love story, a misunderstood war, and a big bad climax. Though each of these points are presented, it takes a long, scenic route that borders on dull. Cinematically, it’s rather stunning; it’s the superficial character and plot development that is wanting.
Set in the year 2077, Oblivion is a stylish sci-fi film that crams all of the action and plot development into the last half of the movie. Filled with stunning special effects and cinematography, Oblivion takes too long to gain traction, and when it finally does, the revelations climax to a predictable ending.
