After last weeks action packed episode of Hawkeye, episode 4 ‘Partners, Am I Right?’ is a bit more of an investigative episode trying to get to the bottom of several mysteries. *Warning! Spoilers ahead!*

There’s a lot of key details that come out in this episode, some of which deal with the Tracksuit Mafia and some which deal with elements connected to Barton’s (Jeremy Renner) life. The first of these is that they workout Sloan LTD is a shell corporation laundering money for the Tracksuit Mafia and the CEO is Jack Duquesne (Tony Dalton). This seems a little bit on the nose and you can almost imagine him twirling his moustache in his soap opera style as he runs an evil empire. Whether this ends up being the case or not will be interesting to find out, but it certainly moves them one step closer to solving something.

The other mystery about the Rolex watch doesn’t exactly get any massively revealing answers delivered to the audience, but it is an intriguing mystery that hopefully we will see more of. Clint has several conversations with his wife Laura (Linda Cardellini) about it, even breaking into German at one point which needs some kind of explanation. With finding the watch such a critical thing they focus on that and managed to track it to an apartment block. They then discover that the apartment belongs to Maya (Alaqua Cox).  Obviously, nothing is going to be quite that simple and in the middle of trying to find all the evidence Kate (Hailee Steinfeld) is attacked by Maya, but almost simultaneously Clint is attacked by someone he thinks is maya.

This brings the very welcome arrival of Yelena (Florence Pugh) into the series, who doesn’t wait to have a conversation with Clint.  She just seems intent on killing him. Obviously, this makes things very confusing in the moment for all concerned, especially Maya and Kate, as everyone seems to be fighting everyone else. Despite Clint’s best efforts to make sure that no one else gets killed it seems events are working against him, and things are only getting more complicated.

This episode is full of great scenes where Kate and Clint begin to really form a close bond and Clint even starts training her in some of the skills that are unique to Hawkeye.  In turn Kate makes him feel more at home and helps him through some emotionally difficult moments, showing a distinctly empathetic side that seems to be at her core. What we’re seeing with all these scenes is that Kate is most definitely a worthy successor for the Hawkeye name and that she has the best interests of most people at heart.

There’s a lot of great stuff here and the chemistry between the two actors again comes to fore, letting this show really sing. However, it will be the scenes with Yelena that most people will remember and comment on, which will no doubt become the focus for much discussion. This is the biggest reveal in this episode and many people will be upset they haven’t had a Kingpin reveal. With any luck this will happen soon.

This series continues to be highly entertaining and a really interesting look at the history of Hawkeye and there is no doubt that the next couple of episodes will both become more complex and even wilder.
