VIZ Media has announced today that Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto will be appearing not only at New York Comic Con, but will also be signing a special New York Comic Con variant of Naruto Volume 72 at Kinokuniya Bookstore (Oct 9th) and Barnes & Noble Tribeca (Oct 10th) as part of New York Super Week.

Naruto fans should note that there are very specific rules for these signings.  First, you need to have a New York Super Week ticket.  Second, Kishimoto will only sign copies of Naruto Volume 72 that are purchased during the events, and each purchaser will also get a signed exclusive shikishi (art board).

Barnes and Noble notes that their signing will be limited to only the first 110 purchasers of Naruto Volume 72.  Kinokuniya doesn’t mention any cut-off point, but you should assume a similar capacity when going to that event as well.

That being said, it is always a good idea, if you plan the time for it, to go away from the Jacob Javits Convention Center for a few of the events happening at outside venues.  When we left the convention center in 2013 to go to a panel on Batman: The Brave and the Bold at the Paley Center, we found it to be a cozy event that was a relief from the soul-crushing lines at Jacob Javits, and we even met Diedrich Bader for a few minutes afterward.  I wouldn’t count on that happening at these bookstore signings, but my point is that magic can sometimes happen away from the crowds.

Masashi Kishimoto was born in 1974 in rural Okayama Prefecture, Japan. His first version of NARUTO, drawn in 1997, was a one-shot story about fox spirits; his final version, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, quickly became the most popular ninja manga in the world. The series spawned multiple anime series, movies, novels, video games and more. Having concluded the series in late 2014, he has kept himself busy with the side-story Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring and with writing the story for the latest Naruto movie, both of which will focus on the title character’s son, Boruto. The NARUTO manga series is published in North America by VIZ Media.
